Version 0.8.3 released

New releaseAfter many weeks of work, the version 0.8.3 has been released, with some important changes that we will see below. This version is the last before 0.8.4, the Alpha2 release candidate, which means that all pending changes of the base system have been completed and only oddiscovery is complete (and correct any problem identified) to close the Alpha stage, scheduled for the end of this summer.

The distribution includes:

  • Linux Kernel version 2.6.33
  • Busybox Toolkit version 1.16.1 (updated toolchain 2010.05)
  • Odpkg, odcgi, oddiscovery odcommon preinstalled on the base system

In addition to including many of the standard packages, the main changes are:

  • New architecture with libata, the new Linux kernel driver for storage
  • Multiple updates in the base system, with significant stability improvements
  • Cherokee included in the local repository, for increased performance and security in connection
  • New unified configuration format in opendomo.cfg network.conf files, also affecting the video surveillance
  • Scripts frequently used optimized for maximum performance in small agents
  • Supported by zone division in odcontrol and odvideo, letting you configure the cameras and devices that are in each area
  • Manual update from ISO supported, enabling a better transition between versions
  • Web interface partially rewritten providing complementary functions in Javascript. Configuration scripts integrated interface and visual themes renewed. Cache enabled, reducing by 20% the HTTP transfers
  • Possibility to store log files and heavy libraries to disk, allowing the installation of large packages without the risk of exhausting the ramdrive
  • Improved storage management, with the possibility of booting from CD / ISO, storing on disk configuration
